Summers by the Sea

The Camp's site is on the edge of Carlsbad Village in North County San Diego. From many vantage points, the Pacific Ocean is visible, and there is a private, direct beach access from campus.

In addition to camp classics like arts and crafts, archery, swimming at the pool, and Israeli dancing, our site lets us offer activities directly on the beach. Surfing, bodyboarding, and ocean adventure are available, as well as sports conditioning, aviation, and drones. These are a few of the programs you can expect this summer.

The Academy is experienced in serving large groups of children at a single meal period. With balanced options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, your child can enjoy seconds and even thirds. Meals are served kosher style, which means no pork or shellfish and no mixing of milk and meat. We will continue to accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions.

Campers live in dorm spaces called quads. Each quad has four rooms that open into a common space, creating a cabin-style setup with up to 13 campers and 3 counselors.  Three campers typically live in each individual room with one counselor in that room. Interior doors remain open to the common room to create a cabin feel. Each room has ample storage including dressers, shelves, and closet space. Each quad has 4 rooms each, each with 2 bunk beds in them. Ocean views greet you when you step outside. About half of the quads have a bathroom with direct access from the common space, while the other half share a larger bathroom between two quads.

With the quad layout, we have room for 8 to 13 campers in each cabin, along with 2 to 3 counselors.

Yes. Our Jewish community is at the core of our values. Since the fires in 2018, we have ensured that wherever we hold camp, the experience helps campers grow, explore, and try new things in a safe environment and through a Jewish lens. This location keeps the camp feel that is deeply tied to our roots in Malibu, with ocean breeze, creative and wacky activities, and the amazing staff who care for campers.

Our buses depart from Wilshire Boulevard Temple in Los Angeles, and we have drop-off directly on site at the Academy.
