Questions? Director Douglas Lynn is here to answer them. Following are some of the most common questions we are asked:
What's the philosophy of the camp programs?
At our camps, your child participates in sports, arts, and electives while living an active Jewish life all week and especially on Shabbat. This is a unique opportunity for your child to enjoy a classic sleepover camp experience while developing personal identity, self-esteem, and increased commitment to family, synagogue, and community.
What are the camp facilities like?
Located in Malibu, Wilshire Boulevard Temple Camps offer spectacular ocean views, extensive grounds with shady trails, rustic yet comfortable cabins, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, campfires, and much more—for an experience that is sure to exceed expectations.
Who are your counselors?
Our carefully selected counselors are warm, attentive, and enthusiastic. Many were CHK or Hilltop campers themselves, so their commitment to camp runs deep. All are also specially trained to address the emotional needs of any homesick campers to ensure they participate in all the wonderful activities that await!
What kinds of activities will my child enjoy?
We offer all kinds of sports, arts and crafts, theater, and electives—all geared to your child’s age, interests, and skill level. Visit our website to see this year’s full list of engaging, fun, and educational activities.
Will my child make friends?
WBTC is all about making friends, and our counselors work hard to create an inclusive atmosphere for all children. Many camp-forged friendships last years beyond the summer, as our annual alumni get-togethers certainly prove!
How’s the food?
In a word—awesome! Our own John Bard, a certified executive chef and graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, constantly updates the menus for meals that are healthy, plentiful, and abounding in options for vegetarian and other dietary restrictions. (Please note that while we’re kosher style—no mixing milk and meat and no shellfish—the meat we serve is not kosher, and we don’t maintain a separate set of dishes or cookware.)
How do you take care of my child’s medical needs?
Your child’s health and safety is our top priority. We have a full-time nurse on site, and all medicines are dispensed according to your doctor’s orders. No medicines are allowed in the cabins.
